Lamondance’s artistic creation and movement take place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples—the Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nations.

We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are with us today, those who have gone before us, and the youth that inspire us.

A Message From The Artistic Director

Writing our annual report is honestly one of my favorite tasks of the year. It gives us a moment to reflect on everything we’ve accomplished throughout the season, but more importantly, it grounds us in why we do this work. Being able to reach dancers regardless of their socio-economic background, ethnicity, gender identity, or physical and neurological abilities—while holding an uncompromising standard for quality and equality—is what allows the ecosystem we’ve built to truly flourish.

The 2025/2026 season marked another incredible milestone: our 17th anniversary and a transformative new chapter for Lamondance Arts Society. Over these seventeen years, we have grown into a vital voice in the Canadian contemporary dance community, guided by a simple, unwavering belief: financial capacity should never dictate whether an artist can pursue their professional dream.

Core Mandate

Lamondance Arts Society is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to advancing professional contemporary dance. We build capacity within the artistic ecosystem by integrating professional post-secondary training, career transition pathways, project-based dance company productions, and targeted financial accessibility for emerging artists—with a dedicated focus on equity-deserving communities.

Mission

To create and produce bold, sensorial contemporary dance that connects audiences and pushes artistic boundaries. We empower emerging and established artists to take creative risks in a supportive environment, while actively removing financial barriers through tuition relief and equitable access.

Vision

A contemporary dance landscape where no artist is forced to abandon their professional dream due to financial barriers, and where diverse, early-career artists access equal opportunities to train, create, and perform.

Celebrating 17 years of transformation in our community, Lamondance Arts Society has significantly enriched dancers and the dynamic Vancouver dance scene. Annual Virtual Open House

For six years, our Virtual Open House has offered global and local audiences an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at our creative process, instilling a deep sense of belonging for emerging dancers.

Repertoire Featured: Excerpts of Beyond the Rainbow (Choreography: Davi Rodrigues), Dreamstate (Choreography: Lara Barclay), and a reimagined excerpt of Red Ocean (Choreography: Davi Rodrigues).

Direct Impact: Generated $325 in direct individual donations, with 100% allocated to the Lamondance Scholarship and Bursary Fund.

Seasonal Mainstage: A Winter’s Twist

Reimagining Romeo and Juliet through a contemporary lens at The BlueShore at CapU in North Vancouver for its 5th anniversary season.

Youth Integration: Partnered with 7 regional dance studios (RNB Dance, Tri-City Dance Centre, Vancouver Performing Stars, In Movement Dance Co, Vancouver Grand Ballet, Inspired by Dance Co, and North Shore Academy of Dancing) to give dancers aged 9–16 direct professional stage exposure.

Expanding Regional Access: Delivered dedicated School Matinee Performances removing cost barriers for elementary and secondary students across North Vancouver, Burnaby, and Abbotsford.

Community Pillar: Lamondance & Friends Gala (Vol. 14)

A non-competitive, collaborative showcase uniting Lower Mainland dance institutions on one shared stage without judgment.

Featured Guest Organizations: Affinity Dance, Arts Umbrella Dance Company, Caulfield School of Dance, Coastal City Ballet, The Coast Academy of Dance, Dance Directions, Deas Island Dance, Driftwood Dance Academy, Harbour Dance Centre ITP, The Landing Dance Centre, Mountain Movement Dance Collective, North Shore Academy of Dancing, Quill Collective, RNB Dance, Royal Principal Dance Academy, The Source Dance Company, YIM & Continuum Dance Companies.

Purpose & Impact: 100% of proceeds directly fund the Lamondance Scholarship and Bursary Fund for equity-deserving emerging artists.

Artist Leadership: Creative Residency at The BlueShore at CapU

A week-long creative residency at the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts at Capilano University, handing full choreographic and production control over to the dancers.

Guided by guest artist Cristina Bucci, Rehearsal Director Margarida Macieira, and Artistic Director Davi Rodrigues. The entire showcase was professionally filmed and photographed, equipping each emerging artist with high-grade media assets for their professional portfolios.

A profound investigation of human architecture and shared narrative, featuring guest choreography by Calder White and Generous Mess, a remount of Dreamstate by Lara Barclay, and three works by Artistic Director Davi Rodrigues (Beyond the Rainbow, Red Ocean, and VIVA 2.0).
