A Leading Cultural Star in Contemporary Dance
Founded in 2009 on the majestic North Shore, Lamondance (LMD) is a shining cultural star leading the way in the training, development, creation, and presentation of contemporary dance. A training and mentorship-based performance company, LMD is a strong contemporary voice in the Lower Mainland, creating daring, sensory dance that pushes and explores the boundaries of physicality. Few other training and performance companies engage more local, national, and international guest choreographers to train and mentor dancers and create new works for the community.

We inspire excitement and curiosity for contemporary dance by stirring a passion for movement as a way to cherish the past, delight in the present, and imagine the future.
Under the artistic direction of Davi Rodrigues, the Company actively fosters collaborations that support artists, choreographers, and audiences alike—embracing excellence across a vast diversity of techniques while honoring our roots. With 92+ new commissions since 2009, reaching more than 40,000 people at home and abroad, Lamondance embraces excellence in the practice of contemporary dance.
Governance Duties & Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
- Formulating policies aligned with Lamondance's mission, values, strategy, and long-term vision.
- Appointing, evaluating, and planning succession for the Artistic Director.
- Identifying, evaluating, and managing organizational enterprise risk.
- Participating directly in strategic plan development and annual reviews.
- Fulfilling legal and fiduciary duties concerning the society's financial position and assets.
- Supporting fundraising activities and acting as an ambassador to external stakeholders.
- Attending scheduled board meetings (typically six annually) and participating on committees.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Candidates should possess a personal connection to the performing arts alongside relevant governance experience in the for-profit or not-for-profit sectors.
- Executive Leadership: Senior management experience and a solid understanding of board governance principles.
- Fund Development: Proven ability to garner community support and knowledge of fundraising best practices.
- Ethical Collaboration: Strong communication skills and a commitment to working collaboratively with executive management.
- Term Structure: Standard terms are two years, renewable once (four-year limit), with up to three additional years for executive leadership roles.
- Volunteer Service: Lamondance is a registered charity (78681 5274 RR0001); directors serve on a volunteer basis.
