Welcome, and thank you for joining us for our Season 17 finale, "Atlas of Being." I am thrilled to present this expansive collection of works, which serves as a physical map of the human experience and the invisible forces—time, memory, and connection—that define our journeys.
"Atlas of Being" explores the complex geography of our lives through a diverse repertoire. We begin with the premiere of Beyond the Rainbow, followed by the haunting exploration of time in Sarah Hutton and Aiden Cass’s The Wind Reminds Me. We delve into the subconscious with Lara Barclay’s Dreamstate, navigate turbulent currents in Red Ocean, and witness persistence in Calder White’s Dwell. Finally, we conclude with Viva 2.0, finding light in the cracks of our shared narrative.
As we mark the conclusion of our 17th season, we celebrate the incredible growth and artistry of our dancers. At Lamondance, we remain dedicated to the belief that every dancer is a unique individual with remarkable potential, and we are honoured to be the launchpad for their professional evolution.

Premiere 2026"Beyond the Rainbow" explores the profound and ever-changing nature of human connection. It delves into the strength of the bonds we forge, how they shape our journey forward, and the tender, inevitable process as some threads gently detach through the passage of time.

The Wind Reminds Me
Premiere 2026There are many practical ways we measure time—clocks, calendars, seasons turning. But when people change, move away, or leave us, those measures can feel inadequate. Love, loss, and distance stretch and compress time in illogical ways.
Kinesthetic anatomist, educator, author, and choreographer Irene Dowd writes, “The nervous system can be perceived by my fingers in the way that the wind can be perceived by the eyes—only indirectly. I see branches moving to the south, but not the north wind that blows them.” Like the wind she describes, time is rarely perceived directly. We do not see it passing; we notice what it moves.

Originally created for the International Dance Seminar in Brasilia, Brazil—2015The brain is a red ocean. Within its deep currents, a universe of 100 billion neurons and a constellation of over 100 trillion synaptic connections ripple like waves. This is the most complex object in the known universe—an ever-changing, turbulent sea of thought and emotion, holding vast, hidden territories where our deepest memories, struggles, and unresolved pain live.

World premiere, May 2019, Lamondance Season 10“There is a crack in everything, that is how the light gets in” – Leonard Cohen. The 2019 Viva—an Italian proclamation of "Celebration"—returns to the stage to prove that the architecture of human emotion is truly timeless. We follow a man at his lowest ebb, prepared to surrender to darkness, only to find that the end of one's path is often the threshold of a surreal, "upside-down" world where we rediscover love and reinvent ourselves.

Choreographer & Artist Biographies
GENEROUS MESS (Sarah Hutton & Aiden Cass) / Vancouver, BC
Born in North Vancouver BC, Aiden Cass began his training with North Shore Academy of Dance before joining Modus Operandi (MO) in 2015. Born in Hanna AB, Sarah Hutton moved to Vancouver in 2013 and trained with the Source Dance Company and EDAM before joining MO in 2016. During their graduate project at MO, Aiden and Sarah founded their collective practice and company, Generous Mess.
Generous Mess debuted their duet 'by means of each other' at DOTE in July 2021. 'by means of each other - pt. 2' premiered at Left of Push in January 2023 in Vancouver, BC. Their first ensemble work ‘heirloom’ premiered at the EDAM Spring Choreographic Series in March 2022, with other iterations performed at Dance Deck Onze in August 2024 and Boombox in March 2025. Most recently, 'by means of each other' made its Manitoba premiere at Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers 60th Anniversary Season in April 2025.
LARA BARCLAY / Vancouver, BC
Lara is a dancer and passionate collaborator with international experience as a performer, teacher, and choreographer. Trained at the National Ballet School and Hamburg Ballet School, her dance career spanned 25 years, performing with Aszure Barton & Artists, Ballet Mannheim, Toronto Dance Theatre, Ballett Kiel, The Needcompany, Deborah Colker, Sylvain Émard, Action at a Distance, Mascall Dance, Josh Beamish, Evann Siebens, Vision Impure, and Plastic Orchid Factory.
After 8 years spent touring with Aszure Barton, her final performance took place at Kampnagel Hamburg in 2019. Lara spent 3 years rehearsing and directing for Ballet BC under Emily Molnar and Medhi Walerski, and became Ballet BC’s Associate Director of Outreach and Education. She co-founded Lamondance in 2009 and currently works as a child and youth therapist for the Squamish Nation.
CALDER WHITE / Vancouver, BC
Calder White is a freelance dance artist based on the unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. He is an alumnus of Tkaronto's Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre and holds a BFA in Dance from the Ohio State University. He has originated roles in work by Shay Kuebler, Joshua Beamish, Wen Wei Wang, Ziyian Kwan, and Rachel Meyer, amongst others.
His own choreography has been presented by institutions across North America, including Dancing on the Edge Festival, Danceworks Toronto, Ottawa Dance Directive, Santa Barbara Dance Theatre, and Kinetic Studios Halifax. Calder is the proud recipient of the 2022 Hnatyshyn Foundation's Ukraine - Heritage, Spirit, and Future award for Exceptional Talent in Contemporary Dance.
DAVI RODRIGUES / Brazil - Canada
Seen as a visionary leader in the Canadian dance community, Davi Rodrigues arrived in Canada in 2008 to pursue his passion for dance. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in the Lamondance Arts Society, first as a dancer and guest choreographer and later as the Artistic Director, shaping the company's artistic identity for over 15 years.
His commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment has established a vital scholarship program benefiting emerging artists nationally and internationally, ensuring that arts are accessible to all. Under his guidance, countless emerging artists have been supported by training as professional dancers, choreographers, and rehearsal directors, making a global impact.

Inspired by Leonard Cohen’s observation that the cracks are where the light gets in, the work navigates the fragile boundary between finality and rebirth. We follow a man at his lowest ebb, prepared to surrender to the darkness of a lost love, only to find that the end of one's path is often the threshold of a surreal, "upside-down" world. By remounting this piece, we are reminded that life is never a linear progression, but a series of fractures that offer us the chance to reinvent ourselves and rediscover love in the most unexpected inversions of reality.

About the Choreographers

Lara Barclay / Vancouver, BC
Lara is a dancer and passionate collaborator with international experience as a performer, teacher, and choreographer. Trained at the National Ballet School and Hamburg Ballet School, her dance career spanned 25 years, performing with Aszure Barton & Artists, Ballet Mannheim, Toronto Dance Theatre, Ballett Kiel, The Needcompany, Deborah Colker, Sylvain Émard, Action at a Distance, Mascall Dance, Josh Beamish, Evann Siebens, Vision Impure, and Plastic Orchid Factory. After 8 years spent touring with Aszure Barton, her final performance took place at Kampnagel Hamburg in 2019, dancing to a live, improvised score by Hauschka.
Lara spent 3 years rehearsing and directing for Ballet BC under the direction of Emily Molnar and Medhi Walerski. She went on to become Ballet BC’s Associate Director of Outreach and Education, offering innovative workshops and performances to public schools throughout BC. Alongside performing, Lara worked as an educator for three decades, helping to carve stronger creative pathways for dancers. She co-founded Lamondance in 2009 and has taught and choreographed for several companies and programs, including Arts Umbrella, Modus Operandi, Aszure Barton & Artists, Danish Dance Theatre, Deborah Colker, Richmond Academy of Dance, RNB Dance, and Goh Ballet.
In 2017, Lara began studying Expressive Arts Therapy in Vancouver and, in 2022, completed her Master’s degree at the European Graduate School in Switzerland. She currently works as a child and youth therapist for the Squamish Nation, where she continues her lifelong dialogue with movement while encouraging well-being through play and creative expression.
Calder White / Vancouver, BC
Calder White is a freelance dance artist based on the unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. Welcome, and thank you for joining us for our Season 17 finale. "Atlas of Being" explores the complex geography of our lives through a diverse repertoire—examining the strength of bonds, the invisible passage of time, the subconscious, and the resilient spirit of reinvention.

About the Choreographers
Generous Mess (Sarah Hutton & Aiden Cass) / Vancouver, BC
Aiden Cass and Sarah Hutton founded their collective practice and company, Generous Mess, during their graduate projects at Modus Operandi. Their works have been presented across Canada, including Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers and EDAM. They are privileged to create on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples.
Lara Barclay / Vancouver, BC
A dancer, collaborator, and co-founder of Lamondance (2009). Lara's 25-year performing career included Aszure Barton & Artists, Ballet BC, and Nederlands Dans Theater contexts. She holds a Master's in Expressive Arts Therapy and works as a youth therapist for the Squamish Nation.
Calder White / Vancouver, BC
A freelance dance artist and BFA graduate from Ohio State University. Calder has originated roles with prominent Canadian choreographers and is the recipient of the 2022 Hnatyshyn Foundation award for Exceptional Talent in Contemporary Dance.
Davi Rodrigues / Brazil - Canada
Artistic Director of Lamondance. Arriving in Canada in 2008, Davi has shaped the company's artistic vision for over 15 years, establishing crucial scholarship programs and mentorship pipelines for emerging artists internationally.
