A Message From The Artistic Director…
Welcome, and thank you for coming to our show, TRIPLE BILL. I am excited to bring these incredible creations to this program with the unique, bold, and daring new choreographic works by guest choreographers Ben Green and Kirsten Wicklund, who join forces with me in this remarkable program.
Creativity is in our DNA. For 16 years, Lamondance Professional Company fosters a supportive space for young artists to thrive. It assists recent graduates in entering the professional realm. Performances like the Triple Bill offer transformative opportunities, enhancing our community. Lamondance is where new talents excel in their craft.
With over 92 creations since 2019, we take pride in contributing to our city's cultural richness. We sincerely appreciate the works created by guest choreographers Ben Green and Kirsten Wicklund. Their generosity and heartfelt engagement are evident in their creations.
I am excited to share the reimagined Kauã, originally created for Lamondance's seventh season. This vision is deeply rooted in my love for my Brazilian heritage, particularly influenced by the Guarani indigenous culture. In this work, I emphasize the beauty of nature, bringing to life vibrant images of Amazonian fauna and flora with a special focus on the bird “Arara”. Kauã serves as a reflection on the significance of honoring our roots, embracing our past, and fostering a future that is inclusive and welcoming to all. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you who have supported our journey, helping Lamondance evolve into a hub of transformation, opportunity, and creativity.
Enjoy the show!

Welcoming Music by Murray Grant
1 - Crater (18 min)
World Premiere, April 2025
A CRATER. A pit. A void. We are all on the outside, walking the border and looking in. What does it mean to exist on the edge? How does our proximity to the vast, mysterious crater affect our relationship with intimacy and connection? CRATER researches the sensation of touch, manipulation of time and the malleability of the gaze. In a world rife with division and conflict, how can a group find agreement and surrender to one another? Is it possible to yield to each other with our eyes closed? Can we find trust on the edge?

My sighs are blown away, my salt tears gone,
Mine eyes are turned to fire, my heart to lead;
Heavy heart's lead, melt at mine eyes' red fire!
So shall I die by drops of hot desire.
- William Shakespeare
Together, the dancers and I have taken inspiration from ideas surrounding; conversation starters, farewells, crowds, first meetings, cheer, anticipation, solitary, and illusion. We have explored these ideas through various physical links that investigate the human ritual of celebration. - Kirsten Wicklund, 2019.

3 - Kauã (30 min)
World Premiere, June 2016
"Kauã," a word from the Tupi-Guarani language meaning "big hawk," embodies the essence of nature's magnificence, particularly inspired by the Amazon's diverse flora and fauna.
Drawing on the vibrant life found in the Amazon rainforest, "Kauã" takes flight by showcasing the beauty and richness of the Amazon's ecosystem from insects to animals, roots to water, honouring the grace of the Araruna, a bird that symbolizes beauty and the fragility of nature. "Kauã" celebrates and honours these natural wonders, emphasizing their significance above all human constructs, serving as a poignant reminder of what is at stake, inviting us to reflect on our relationship with nature and the importance of cherishing our planet.
